What would it take to take Google down a peg? For starters, a whole lot of spammers would have to take a break for a bit. But to do that, Google would need to find a balance between what the spammers were doing to try to take it down and what spammers were doing to help it down. As a result, this may signal the end of the short-term boosts in rankings.
This will be a good thing for the sites that are being boosted. Their boost will end as a result of a few spammers getting what they deserve. The sites that are being boosted have earned their places by helping their audience and their communities. They did not cheat and they will not be bullied. Spam can go away.
